Making the Darksiders Lurker's concept from Baldi Konijn // polishing sculpt, anatomy, weapon and starting the scene

Making Of / 06 October 2020

Hello Guys, long time not see for this piece.

Recently i took some time on evening to manage to push that Lurker. i polished the anatomy, make a pose to check the whole character. i started colors also a bit. I know  it's bit different from the concept because i decided to train a bit more my anatomy skill on this one, still i try to mix stylized and realist looking for this one.

Next step will be the retopology of the character, then doing some painting in Zbrush for the basecolor and go for the Final Game Ready Character in Substance painter. i think i will push the polycount a bit more ( still gaming polycount) in compare of my other character.

So Here is some views of the finished posed sculpt.

it was really fun to sculpt this and i thank again Mr Baldi  (https://www.artstation.com/baldi-konijn) to give me his agreement for starting his concept.

Hope you will like it guys :)

Making the Lurker concept from Baldi Konijn // starting adding detail to the Lurker

General / 14 March 2020

After blocking out the Lurker with Sphere, i'm reshaping, checking proportion and starting to add details,

i really like this concept, it won't be easy at all but so interesting especially the bones aspect and muscle sculpting.

Making the Lurker concept from Baldi Konijn // Blocking the weapon and starting his sculpt

General / 13 January 2020

Hi !

For this part, i will talk about the weapon :)

This is not so long to talk about it, since i made just the blockout with primitive in Zbrush with elementary shape that got setting like this :

Next step is doing some adjustement with Zmodeler which i found really simple and usefull for simple task, insert point, make hole, move edge and point etc... to get a first blocking.

Then i merge the things that look like to be as one part ( top part of the blade, bot part, ring, strap/handle )

Now it's not finish but i have a base to fclean and refine my high res properly later.

I hope this is interesting for you :)

Thank you,

J.

Making the Lurker concept from Baldi Konijn // About References

Making Of / 13 January 2020

Hi !

Before continuing, I would just like to talk about references. In my opinion they are extremely important, but I try not to have too many at the beginning.

I always have references of human or / and animal anatomy if necessary. I also like to have the main reference of the concept but also some other illustrations of the author to go a little more into his universe and capture some precious information on how the author sees the shapes, the colors, the level of details. of his work ...

One last thing too, I like to do some reference research of stylized works of other artists, I like to study the way of other sculptors "Stylize" their works to have more reference and more ideas on what works or not according to concepts. ( i keep url of artstation page to remember their name)

Here is my reference board for starting the concept :

Thank you !

Making the Lurker concept from Baldi Konijn // First Blocking

Making Of / 09 January 2020

Hi guys,

First, i wish to thank Konijn Baldi for his great design and let me use this one to make the 3D version :)

You can find his work here, it's just so great !  https://www.artstation.com/baldi-konijn

So the one i decided to do is the Lurker, there is many design from Baldi i wanted to do, but i really love this one at the first sight :

i'm starting with Zsphere, i'm really not use to do this way, normally i use primitive shape in one subtool to get the first blockout, well it's always good to try new way !

i'm sure now there is some part really out of proportion , but it give me an idea of the whole shape

See you soon for the next step :)
